Bicester Eco Town

Bicester is the UK's first ECO Town and ALD were excited to be involved in the first phase of development, providing the Soft Landscape detailed design role for the first of the 6,000 homes in the development to the Northwest of Bicester.  Elmsbrook is the first phase and is designated as the Exemplar scheme.  A 51 acre pioneering development featuring 393 new highly energy efficient homes and 40% green space. The scheme utilises cutting edge technology with environmental integrity and localism at its core.

In addition to the infrastructure landscape, ALD were initially involved in the 'branding' of the scheme - the arrival point USP, look and feel - using landscape and plants to set the tone for the ingrained environmental considerations beyond.  This scope evolved into the design of Marketing Suite, and the front and back garden spaces associated with the three show homes.  These garden spaces were designed to explore contemporary living whilst dealing with the potential affects of a changing climate - each of the gardens offering design ideas and 'snippets' to those newly on the housing ladder, those entertaining in courtyard gardens, and those enjoying a family plot with an interest in growing produce and enjoying outdoor play space.
