Heron Quays 1, Roof Terrace

ALD were responsible for the design and delivery of this roof garden in a high profile position within Canary Wharf and overlooked by JP Morgan building. As the roof is not accessed by the public the key aim of the brief was to achieve a softworks scheme which provided year-round interest to those who look down onto it from the surrounding offices.

ALD produced initial conceptual drawings and visualisations showing the seasonal changes which were key to the client requirements. Detailed soft landscape design considerations involved the selection of species which would tolerate the exposed rooftop environment as well as provide the required seasonal interest and colour. Inspections were carried out during the defects period and during the course of Summer 2012 the new rooftop landscape was established. The roof terrace now provides a strong visual landscape setting which enhances the environmental and ecological credentials for the building on which its sits.
