R7 Roof Terrace, Kings Cross
In support of Kier Construction and Willerby Landscapes, and based on the DMA Architectural Proposals ALD were appointed to undertake a review of the roofscape design proposals and the ground level public realm for the plot known as ‘R7 at Kings Cross Central’.
The R7 building sits as the colourful backdrop to the Granary Building in the King’s Cross regeneration programme and is considered the next generation of workplace. The roof terrace is a pedestrian accessible area, located on level 09, with uninterrupted views over the Goods Yard and Central St Martins

The roof terrace was designed to be a multi-use terrace with access for building tenants and users of the meeting room facility on a daily basis. It was also to provide a flexible opportunity for hosting external events, outdoor screenings and community events and to maximise the roofs potential as a visual vantage point enjoying excellent views to the south and to the city of London.
Where biodiversity used to be considered to be an ‘add on’ rooftop environments are being delivered across towns and cities with ecology forming an integral and embedded strategy in the both new build and retro-fit projects as had been achieved successfully at the R7 building.
